About

HISTORY

Alimah Scouts is a non-profit faith base organization that started over 22 years ago by four dedicated sisters Antionette Bilal, Sakinah Uqdah, Aisha Abdul-Basit and Aisha Moore with the hopes of fulling a void for girls in the inner-city communities. Over the years Antionette Bilal continued alone with the passion and renewed commitment of taking Alimah Scouts program to another level. Enhancing the development of girls through exposure to a series of life changing events some of which include feeding the homeless, providing college scholarships, leadership, community service, conflict resolution, camping skills and so much more. Our anti-bulling program has assisted many of our male and female youth to expand their creative and educational strengths. Through this dynamic curriculum Antionette and the other volunteers were successfully able to cultivate girls into phenomenal young women.

ABOUT

Alimah Scouts is a community based organization which has served youth in many neighborhoods of Philadelphia and surrounding areas. Our youth face a myriad of social, educational and developmental issues that must be addressed to prevent unwanted behaviors that can be detrimental to these young people and the larger community. The Alimah programs encourages education of youth and families, and prevention of violence, crime.

This is accomplished through activities designed to improve the physical, mental and emotional state of youth, encouragement of families in shaping healthy environments for themselves and their children, and strengthening our local communities so that they will be better able to serve as support systems for our youth. The youth are trained to take active leadership roles in moving the community forward. These programs include weekly activities, a youth conference featuring a series of workshops and programs on building positive relationships, skill development activities, mentoring activities.

WHO WE SERVE

Alimah Scouts is well known for their monthly shelter feeding. They have a list of single parents that they clothe and feed monthly. These experiences are used as character building for the youth that they serve.

Education is a major component to the Alimah Scouts Program So much so that they have a program dedicated to studying history. It is called Muslim Youth Association History Club. In this club the youth study about people, places and events. They perform a powerful oratorical presentation on all the information they have gained throughout the year at annual youth awards banquet. At this banquet the youth are awarded in their achievements in the areas of community service, scholastic, athletic and visual. They also have an essay writing contest for ages 12 thru 25 and winners receive a cash award.
